Daddy, Be My Guide- 2/9/92

Note: This poem was written by my mother shortly after my grandfather, William "Bill" H. Sturdivant, my mom's father and hero, passed away.

Daddy, Be My Guide

As I stand in tears before the Arbor of the Rose
Thinking of you daddy and I smile-
My thoughts seem to come in the form of prose
And offer my heart solace for a while

I love you daddy, I always will
Sorrow now will be my constant friend-
Time I know will ease the pain I feel
But your memory will live in me to the end-

Someday when my Jesus comes
To lead me to the other side
Daddy, since Heaven is now your home
Please hold my hand and be my guide

My Mom

My Mom
11/17/2000
______________________________________

I stand alone and battered
A closet for my home
A soul and body shattered
A spirit broken down.

A child of three yet all alone
Eyes older than my time
She came and took me to her home
And told me it was mine.

She held me when at night in fear
The nightmares jarred my sleep
She taught me how to say a prayer
"I pray the Lord my soul to keep."

And when the doctors liked me.
And in a hospital bed I lay,
She bathed and dressed and fed me
And for hours we would play.

She held me when I tried to walk
On her arm I often leaned
And when about the Lord we talked
God was smiling, so it seemed.

When at times I've fallen
Her strength came shining through
And I never have forgotten
All she taught me to do.

To love God and family
To always try my best
To give God all the glory
And not worry about the rest
